A computer glitch means Prescott residents will see a small adjustment in their tax bill next month.
A special meeting of council was held recently to amend the tax rate by-law to correct the issue. As town staff worked on the upcoming budget, they discovered that the numbers for property tax revenue weren't quite adding up. The provincial system the municipality uses to calculate tax rates experienced a glitch, which means the tax levy increase in 2019 was never added to the municipal tax rates.
In order to correct this undercharge, the interim tax bill in February will go up by $50.14 for the average town residence.
Anybody with questions about their property taxes is welcome to contact town hall at 613-925-2812 extension 6211.
