James and Colleen Purcell of James Purcell Insurance in Spencerville arrived at two area residential facilities last month bearing gifts.
The company partnered with Grenville Mutual Insurance to bring dozens of gift bags to the staff at both Wellington House and Mayfield Retirement Residence in Prescott. In a short speech, they told both sets of workers that this was a 'thank you' for all their hard work during the last five months.
"Sometimes your job is overlooked, but we know how important it is," read the attached card. "During the last few months you have been called to go above and beyond and you have responded with dedication and exceptional care."
"They always go above and beyond for everyone," said Colleen Purcell at the Mayfield presentation. "But they've shown extreme care in recent times and worked hard to keep everyone safe and healthy."
The two care residences did not have any cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in their patients or staff, citing the fact that everyone was diligent about their own healthcare and that of their clients. Each employee is reported to have adapted to the additional safety protocols even when it meant extra hours of cleaning both at work and at home.
The gift bags were handed out to every staff member at both sites and James Purcell said he was glad to have the chance to honour the workers in this way. He hoped they enjoyed "a little treat in return for their hard work and excellent standard of care".
